How to Apply

Joining THPBA is straightforward. Complete these four steps and become part of our growing community.

Fill Out the Application

Download and complete the membership application form with your professional details and area of practice.

Submit Credentials & CV

Attach your medical qualifications, current CV, and a letter of good standing from your institution or medical council.

Committee Review

Our membership committee reviews your application within two weeks and may reach out for any additional information.

Who is eligible to become a THPBA member?

THPBA membership is open to all medical professionals involved in the care of patients with hepato-pancreato-biliary diseases. This includes surgeons, gastroenterologists, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, hepatologists, nurses, and trainees. Applicants should hold a valid medical licence or be enrolled in an accredited training programme.

How long does the application process take?

Most applications are reviewed and processed within two weeks. The membership committee meets regularly to evaluate new applications. You will receive an email notification once your application has been approved, along with instructions for setting up your account.

What payment methods are accepted?

For Tanzanian members, we accept mobile money (M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money), bank transfer, and direct deposit. International members can pay via bank wire transfer or PayPal. Detailed payment instructions are provided upon application approval.

Can I upgrade my membership tier later?

Yes. Trainee members who complete their training and obtain specialist qualifications can upgrade to Full Membership at any time. Simply submit your updated credentials and the applicable fee. The transition is seamless and your membership history is preserved.

Is THPBA affiliated with international HPB organisations?

Yes. THPBA is affiliated with the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA), the E-AHPBA, COSECSA, and works closely with MUHAS and Muhimbili National Hospital. Our members benefit from these partnerships through shared educational resources, joint conferences, and international fellowship opportunities.

What happens if I do not renew my membership?

Memberships are renewed annually. If your membership lapses, you will retain access to basic resources for a 30-day grace period. After that, portal access and member benefits are suspended until renewal. You can reinstate your membership at any time by paying the current annual fee without needing to reapply.
